DAN AND CHERI'S WEDDING:

Dan Course and Cheri Pinson were married August 31, 1991 in the beautiful Hostess House chapel in Vancouver, Washington. Cheri's sister and two of her friends were bridesmaids. It was particularly exciting and heartwarming that two members of the wedding party came up all the way from California to participate.

Cheri's beautiful gown and the bridesmaids gowns were hand made by a friend of Cheri's mother as a gift "to and from Cheri's mother." (Her mother died many years ago.)

The reception was also held in the Hostess House, where peach colored flowers and candles and a apricot punch in the champagne fountain carried out the couple's color scheme. (The Hostess House reception room has beautiful classic sofas and furniture and a grand piano in the sitting room area with dance floor and bandstand on the other end.)

Dan and Cheri went on honeymoon to Reno.

SHAWN AND RENEE:

Shawn Lumsden and Renee Pinkos were married August 31, 1991 in the home of Renee's parents. Shawn wore a Christian Dior pinstripe suit with pink cummerbund and Renee wore a pink floor length gown with shirred sleeves and a fingertip veil. Brandon was the ring bearer and Jordan (Stefanie's little girl) was flower girl. Renee's friend Jenny was matron of honor and Shawn's friend Brad was best man. Their theme was "Precious Moments". Silk flowers, pink lamps, pots of azaleas and turtle dove candles adorned the white marble mantelpiece and living room. A 3-tier cake with fresh flowers was made by a friend. For their honeymoon, they stayed at a Victorian bed and breakfast in historic Snohomish.

LYNN'S FAMILY:

This was a very busy and expensive summer for Lynn, with 2 of her children getting married. She works full time at the shipyard and attends school and has also been repainting her house this summer and now has it up for sale. It shouldn't be too hard to sell, since it has 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and an unfinished rec room. The house was well built...Lynn and Steve completed it under one of the self help housing programs.

Melanie remarried to Mark Smith.

Anita, sadly, had a miscarriage. She is holding up well both physically and emotionally. Forrest quit his job at Sears to work for a woodworker. He enjoyed his job at Sears, but the company does not like to give anyone 40 hours a week, and the pay was not great. Anita is still attending Nursing school. They have been doing some fun things; they went to the Puyallup Fair, where Anita rode an elephant and they just bought a new truck.

Tina is working at a childcare center, which is an ideal solution, because she can earn money and have Derek by her side.

LORETTA AND DAN:

The big news in this family was Dan's wedding to a very sweet girl, Cheri Pinson. Dan and Cheri make a very striking couple with his light hair and her dark hair. She and Dan work at the same place.

Dan and Loretta's youngest, Bonnie Jean, is a gorgeous girl, with blonde hair, almond shaped eyes and a dazzling figure. What counts more, is that she is a very nice young lady. Her best friends share her high standards. Loretta found out recently that most of them are LDS. She continues to be top in her class.

Dan operates his business out of the home right now.

VALERIE AND JIM:

Brittany is walking now. She is such a delicate little girl, but has a definite mind of her own. If she doesn't like something you do, she will bop you with her bottle.

Stefanie and Jim's baby Jordan was flower girl at Uncle Shawn's wedding. Jordan began walking earlier. Stef graduated from her Medical Institute training and is serving her externship. She has been told there will be no trouble placing her, because she is top of the class.

Shawn and Renee are temporarily staying with her parents. He will be working for a concrete company until November. Renee is a nursing student.

BABETTE, MILAS AND FAMILY:

Bets says her life is all the same, work at the office, come home and work and start over again. She did have a short break while taking Supervisory training in Seattle.

Milas' band is playing at the Kitsap Fair Pavilion as part of a country music festival sponsored by KBRO.

Young Milas is taking geometry. He has a girl he is really interested in. When he asked to take her to a dance, her parents said she couldn't go on single dates, so he invited 2 of her friends, bought them all white gardenia corsages, danced with them all and had a great time. He wore a tux shirt and looked really handsome.

Michelle is in choir. Amy is in drama. Peter wants to play baseball this year. He is also in Scouts.

They are all so talented, and such cut-ups. When Haven and Kitty had a slumber party and invited Amy and Michelle Charlene, the girls had a ball trying on some beautiful clothes that Valerie had sent over. Then they got silly.

Michelle dressed up like a hippy. She had it down pat--even the rounded shoulders and hair in the face and had us all gasping with laughter.

LEESA:

Leesa still has 2 quarters to complete to get her Math degree. (She had to take different classes, since she changed her major from Engineering). Charlene switched from trombone to Alto Sax and just loves it. She plays all the time. David plays trombone.

The family went to the Puyallup Fair and Charlene was able to go to a Gerardo concert. (She says he's "a babe".)

MARKAY & FAMILY:

Markay started to school at Olympic College Monday. She will fill in the requirements she needs to be able to go on to a full time college and take Food Science. She has looked at Ellensburg, Bellingham and BYU as possibilities.

She did her last Farmers Market the end of September. She will be looking either for catering jobs or more products to sell to stores, if she has time after housework and homework. (She has her sourdough and other speciality breads in 3 places now.)

She was really impressed with Michael Ballam's classes at Education week. (He is an opera singer with a terrific voice. His class was on having a musical 'first aid' kit.) She has no TV reception and no VCR, but it is fine with her. She reads to the children and they go for bike rides, and they also play classical tapes. While listening to one of Bach's fugues the other day, she was astonished to see little Richie sitting and folding his arms. "Mommy, he said, "that's reverent music.". Another time at church he decided he was going to be reverent for the rest of his life...and promptly fell asleep. One more 'cute kid' story and I promise I'll stop. Markay was admonishing Katie to eat her cereal. "Listen, Katie, what does it say?" Kate, who didn't want to eat it listened and answered, "It says "Crap, snackle, pop."

Haven and Alice are like Abbott and Costello. They are always doing little routines to make everyone laugh. Recently they did their own version of the settling of Salt Lake Valley with Haven (as Brigham Young) sitting up in the wagon and singing, "You got the right place, bay-a-bee."

Recently there was a Seabeck Pride Day and one of the pictures from their 'archives' was of Michelle Cook as a kindergarten making cider with an apple press. It seems that during the 50's there was a ferry running from Pleasant Harbor (near us) to Seabeck. (Wish they would revive that idea.)

CARTERS:

Walt raised 3 watermelon this year! The largest is 12 lbs. and they are really good. Our tomatoes turned out well, too. They are Early Girl, but seemed like a different variety because they have fewer seeds and a richer, more flavorful flesh.

I recently had that really terrible flu. I wish people wouldn't be "noble" and go to church or school when they are sick and give their germs to us.

While I was ill, Walt did my chore service job and instead of cleaning house he replaced a pipe under the sink. The place I clean is so tiny...it isn't even a regular size trailer. It is also very cluttered Walt jacked up the upper cupboards so they would close and I cleaned them all out and lined the back of the walls with fresh contact paper. We're making some progress, but the situation is so bad; the toilet doesn't flush (the inside parts are broken), the sinks don't drain, the water heater doesn't work and if you turn on a light in one part of the house everything else flickers. (I called the bishop and he is sending an electrician to look at the wiring.) There is only a narrow pathway through the place, so everything has to be moved to do anything. She has decided to throw some things away, but needs to throw away 99% more. She has a bad heart and her husband hasn't been able to walk well since he was a small boy and his despicable father ran over him with a horse-drawn wagon and then refused to take him to the doctor.

We had one of our Brinnon bunch pot lucks this month and heard more fascinating stories from the people. Ron Fulton was married to Elizabeth Bishop, the granddaughter of the people known in "The Egg and I" as Ma and Pa Kettle. He says all the stories in the book were true. While courting her, before he knew of the relationship, he took her as a surprise to a local drive-in where one of the Ma and Pa Kettle movies was showing. She did not think it was very funny. They were lucky, though, Betty McDonald used the real last names of most of the people in the book, such as Birdie Hicks.

STARKS:

Belva reports: "We visited with Dick and Delsa and Billy. Delsa and Billy and Chris were coating the new fence with linseed oil. (Bill worked the longest). He used a chair and did the middle of the fence leaving the top and bottom for Delsa to bend and stretch, so did not need it. She has become quite thin and looked very good. The yard looks so pretty and the house is ringed with flowers. They have also painted the downstairs and soon will be doing the upstairs. Duane had helped them replace the small bedroom windows with energy efficient ones. We missed Duane and Ronda as they were camping, but were fortunate enough to be there when several of the family called. Lance's Mother is remarrying and so they were coming over the weekend and called to verify arrangements. Rick called from Missouri to say that he would be taking leave about the 9th of September ( if it was approved) and would be coming home. Joe and Kay have moved their mobile up. The electricity is not hooked up and they do not have a telephone yet, but it is coming. They were able to get a good deal on a lot that needs quite a bit of cleaning up. Their address is :

Mr and Mrs Joseph Stark

1439 Waterline Rd.

Butte, Montana, 59701.

Kay has accomplished a good deal in the genealogy department and she brought her book along to share. Both Joe and Kay looked great, we did not get to see the children. Dick is anxious to have the work done for his parents, sister and other members of the family and Kay is going to help Delsa get the names ready. Dick has done quite a bit on his own by attending genealogy class. We are happy to report that he is speaking a little more now although it takes tremendous effort on his part.

PERRY:

Benita and Jon returned from their trip and moved into their new home. Jon's folks were kind enough to go and help them move as well as some friends of theirs. They have the same mailing address and phone number, but their street address is: 1435 2nd St., Columbia City, Oregon.
